Career and Technical Scholarship Fund

The Career and Technical Scholarship Fund will help build a work force with the skills Texas employers need now and in the future.

Grant Disbursements

As of July 29th, 2010, the Comptroller awarded $5 million in tuition grants from the Career and Technical Scholarship Fund to 54 Texas community colleges and public technical institutes.

Recipient schools will award scholarships to their students who meet the eligibility requirements.

The amount of JET scholarship funds available annually to each public community college or public technical institute is determined by a formula established by the Comptroller allocating 60 percent of the funds to certificate programs and 40 percent to associate degrees. This year, each college received a proportionate share of the funding based on the number of degrees awarded in 2007-08.

View FY 2010 JET Scholarship Formula and Allocation for more details.

Who Can Apply: Texas community colleges or public technical institutes (see application instructions for further details).

The need for the Career and Technical Scholarship Fund arises from increasing costs at two-year and four-year institutions. According to the Texas Comptroller’s 2008 Texas Works report, college costs have risen at rates surpassing both general inflation and the rise in personal income.

Scholarship Requirements

Student Eligibility: Scholarships may only be awarded to students seeking professional registration, certification or licensure in high-demand occupations, where a certificate or an associate degree is a basic prerequisite for such registration, certification or licensure.

Students who are awarded Career and Technical Scholarship Fund scholarships must be:
